Black Faculty Make a Difference in Student Success

Research shows that "the lack of faculty diversity impedes students academically." Representation matters! Diversify the faculty to raise academic standards.


As of 2018, there were 832,119 full-time Faculty in the nation. 5.5% of them identified as Black.


UC & CalState systems' tenured faculty are composed of 3.3% and 4.1% Black faculty, respectively.



6% of Instructional Faculty in the California Higher Education System are Black.


Black faculty represent only 6.2% of all tenured faculty in California Community Colleges.


Having representative faculty in the classroom an close performance gaps by 20-50%.


Approximately 60% of all faculty in the California Community College system are white, while 71% of students are from other racial backgrounds.
